What dropping 300 EC daily did to my site

I joined Entrecard just October last year and I’ve been dropping the maximum of 300 cards as much as I can up to this day. I can count in one hand the number of days I wasn’t able to drop 300 so I’ve been a diligent dropper.

300EC

Anyway, if you’re wondering what the effect of that task had on my blog then read on.

  • Slight increase of daily visits. Before EC, my site was only averaging about 120 visits (according to Google Analytics) daily. Today, I’m only averaging about 250 visits. Not a big increase but mainly it’s because my site is poor in SEO.
  • Huge bump in Alexa ranking. I don’t know if this is important to you but before EC, I have an Alexa ranking in the millions but now I’m already ranked at 323,210. If you want to boost your Alexa rank quickly, EC can help.
  • Lots of comments. Since I’m getting a lot of blogger visitors (mostly EC members), my posts are getting a lot of comments. I just have to write an interesting post with a good title and people will actually read and comment. EC can help expose your site to a huge number of bloggers so all you have to do is write good content.
  • High bounce rate. I guess this is expected since most visitors simply drop a card then leave your site so the average time a reader spends on my site is a measly 51 seconds. That’s not good by the way.
  • Increase in site community members via MyBlogLog. If you can see the MyBlogLog widget on the sidebar, I now have 93 members in my community. Before EC it was just 16. So expect a boost of members if you’re a top dropper in EC.

Having said that, is it worth the effort in dropping 300 cards daily? Well it depends on what you’re after. If it’s the number of visitors then I don’t think it’s worth it, you should boost your sites SEO for that. But if you want quality visitors who will actually read and comment on your posts then go for it.

I’m having a short break by the way as I’ll be having a vacation trip starting tomorrow. See you soon!

Agreed -- EC can bring a lot of traffic, but many visitors drop and run. I've been working harder to actually stop in and read those blogs that I have favored (including this one) as I think it is only fair to give something back beyond a drop.

Congratulations on the traffic surge; let's hope that you increase retention as you go forward.

Wow! Nice stats!

I've abandoned diligent daily 300 EC dropping duties. I'm using a different dropping strategy - drop to blogs that I really "know" whenever I had a post to promote. It is easier to comment and reach out and I've realized I am able to connect to readers even if I decide not to drop anymore.

Besides I am not working in a single social media anymore. Twitter, Plurk, StumbleUpon and Digg are also some places where I am also active with. Not to mention other blogs that I had to promote too.

I would probably be dropping everyday at that limit if I need a higher Alexa stats. Right now I am not after the traffic stats but establishing a long time relationship with readers.

Also, I keep on wondering why Calvin's Hub performs better with search engines than this one. Maybe it has to do with those paid posts and PR. But then I already saw plenty of blogspot blogs too that gets lots of search engine traffic (yes, they are with EC).

@Morten
Thanks! You should visit the Philippines, no snow. Gonna go dolphin watching this week. :)

@Matt
Thanks for the visit and the comment man. The traffic surge ain't that big but it's ok. i'll take any traffic.

@Gem
Calvin's Hub performs better... averaging almost 1000 visits daily and that's without the help of EC. Both sites are PR3 but that one gets it traffic mostly from SEO.

I've been here a month, but I notice a lot more interest in my blogs. The visibility is great, and I've found some likeminded bloggers. Your analysis seems sound.

I couldn't drop 300 EC cards per day, I get bored after a while, but I do try drop an average of 30 a day and comment when a post interests me.

I have found I have been getting a few repeat visitors who actually have been staying around my blog a lot longer than just a card drop which is good.

I like entrecard and I'm glad I came across it. Not only has it increased my daily views, but I have stummbled across some really interesting blogs I wouldn't have otherwise.

Enjoy your vacation :)

Have you considered doing SEO to get traffic this blog? That would be a lot lesser effort than dropping cards.

I tried dropping 300 ECs a day only twice or thrice. I wasn't fulfilled at the achievement at the end of the day so I thought it wasn't worth it for me. I drop and click through sometimes, and then drop on those who drop on me. I also try to follow conversations :)

Good observation.I myself have noticed these changes even though I'm not a drop master (300 per day). I say Entrecard traffic is worth the effort.

Makes it seem like its worth it. I have been doing it for a few months now. I am wondering where it will go.

Yes, EC really brings real traffic, and they are improving their services.

Btw, I have listed 2 sets of 300 EC Dropping sites, a total of 600 sites for you to drop on. Don't worry I validated all of that site has an EC widgets, which you can't assure of some "Advertising Generator" well here you can assure no HIDDEN agenda, just purely Entrecard dropping.
