The most downloaded movie of 2009

Are you one of the billions of people who download movies off the net via torrent? What do you think is the most downloaded movie for the year? Transformers? GI Joe? Harry Potter?

According to torrent tracker site, TorrentFreak, the unanimous movie that earned the most downloaded of 2009 is none other than JJ Abrams’ Star Trek. It has a whopping 10.96 million downloads from BitTorrent even though it didn’t gross as much as the number two most downloaded movie.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is at number two with 10.6 million downloads. It is also the top-grossing film for 2009 with over $385 billion ticket sales.

The most simple torrent tracker

If you’re fond of downloading torrents but don’t really understand what those torrent term means or don’t want to put up with registrations, ads and all those clutter, you would be interested in trying out Nerrot.

Nerrot is probably the most simplest torrent site out there. In fact, it’s so simple that they only have one page, only for the search box. Just key in your search term (the more specific the better) and it will searche for the closest match with the highest ratio of seeders (healthiest swarm), then automatically downloads what it determines to be the best torrent file for your search.

It’s that simple. Search and download. I won’t recommend this to those who don’t have a fast connection though. You don’t want to be wasting all those bandwidth thinking you got the right stuff when you really don’t.

Torrent search alternative to Mininova

Most of you may have already known that Mininova has recently limited torrents to only approved publishers. This is the reason you may be experiencing “No result found” when searching for a movie or a TV show.

Basically, Mininova is close to worthless now for all your torrent-tracking needs. Fret not, here’s a list of other torrent sites that may serve as alternative to Mininova.

• Torrentzap
• Fenopy
• ExtraTorrent
• KickassTorrents
• BTjunkie
• Monova
• isoHunt
• yourBitTorrent
• The Pirate Bay
• ShareReactor

Last August a court ruling told Mininova had to remove all links to ‘infringing' torrent files.

Since it is technically unfeasible to pre-approve or filter every potentially infringing torrent file, the Mininova team decided to only allow torrents to be submitted by approved uploaders. This move resulted in the deletion of more than a million torrents, many of which were not infringing any copyrights at all.

Where to watch FREE TV shows online

If you don't have time downloading TV shows then you might want to view them online via streaming. However, the most popular video streaming site that is YouTube is hard to rely on for full TV shows.

Project Free TV is a site dedicated to making all TV shows FREE by providing you links where you can still view video of the latest episodes or even past seasons of your favorite show. They have a wide range of popular shows that might surprise you.

Don't expect HD quality though but it's a nice site if you want to catch up with your favorite show using your PC.

Pirate Bay is not going to be free anymore

If you’re a torrent downloader then you’ve probably heard of The Pirate Bay. It’s one of the best and biggest site offering torrent downloads ranging from movies, music, apps, games, etc.

Similar to Napster, the site’s owners went into a legal battle for violating copyright laws. Last month, it was acquired by a Swedish company called Global Gaming Factory to keep it alive.

However, there are reports saying that they would start implementing a monthly fee for its users. Sucks huh? We’re down to mininova and isohunt now I guess.

Where to find the latest release to download

So you have the blazing-fast internet connection but the problem is you’re only using like a quarter of it for browsing and the occasional YouTube viewing. Why not make good use of your bandwidth by downloading stuff?

Scene Releases is a site where you can find out what the latest releases are on the internet. From movies, apps, TV shows, games and music, they have it all in the site.

I use the site mainly to track movie releases so I would know what movies have poor quality and those that already have DVD quality. What’s good about Scene Releases is that the torrent for the movies are already linked from the site. No need to search for it.

Check it out to see how useful the site is for the download freak that you are. Hehehe.

Download the studio version of Kris Allen’s Heartless

If you’re a fan of American Idol then you probably already know that Kris Allen is going to the finals next week where he competes against Adam Lambert.

Many people, including me, believe that it was his rendition of Kanye West’s Heartless that propelled him to the finals. It’s different but it still sounds good. Here's the studio version of the song:

Kris Allen – Heartless (studio version).mp3

People are talking about it as much as they talked about David Cook’s Always Be My Baby last year. Kris’ version is not as original as we think it is since a lot of people including the group called The Fray already did something similar with Heartless.

For more studio version of AI 8 song, check out my other post.

How to downgrade your Yahoo Messenger

Recently, my Yahoo Messenger prompted me to update itself so I did but sometimes upgrading so fast will give you problems. I wasn’t able to log in anymore with the new version despite tweaking my connection preferences.

So I thought of downgrading my YM. But where do they keep the old versions? Besides, the components were downloaded from the net instead of being a standalone installer.

Luckily I found this site called Old Apps which hosts old versions of different kinds of applications including Yahoo Messenger. I downloaded the older iteration of YM and after installation, it’s back to normal. Hooray for older versions!

Download Adam Lambert’s studio version of Mad World

Been listening to Adam Lambert’s version of Tears For Fear’s Mad World a lot lately and I would like to share it with you American Idol fans. He sang this during the “Songs from your birth year” night.

Adam Lambert – Mad World.mp3

Enjoy the studio version!

Skip those download timers with SkipScreen

If you often find yourself downloading from popular file hosting sites and think that those timers and extra clicks are unnecessary, then you might want to install SkipScreen.

SkipScreen is a Firefox add-on that automates downloading for some popular file hosting sites. No more timers, no more extra clicks needed. When I tried this one on a Mediafire file, SkipScreen automated everything and just showed me the download dialog box prompt.

For Rapidshare, they still couldn’t figure out how to bypass its timer so what they did is just automate the process. Enter the Rapidshare URL on your browser and leave it running on the background until the download dialog box pops out.

Other supported sites are zShare, Megaupload, Sharebee, Depositfiles, Sendspace, Divshare and Linkbucks with many more on the way.

Upload your files in different file hosts simultaneously

I don’t know why some people needs to upload their videos, music, etc. in different hosts. Rapidshare usually works fine for me. For redundancy perhaps in case other hosts are blocked for other people?

Anyway, there are FREE online services out there that allows you to mirror your uploads to different hosts. Here’s a couple of them:

FileTwig is pretty straightforward. The site is simple and there’s no need to sign up or anything. Just browse for your file, click which file hosts you want it uploaded to then hit the Upload button. You will be directed to page with the different download links or you can choose to be notified by e-mail if you can’t wait for your upload to finish.

FileTwig supports Rapidshare, MegaUpload, Badongo, EasyShare, DepositFiles and Sendspace.

Gazup! is another similar service. In Gazup!, you can opt to sign up or not. The only difference when signing up is that you can manage your uploads for future reference. You can also choose to upload files remotely in case the files are stored in an FTP server.

Gazup! supports Rapidshare, MegaUpload, NetLoad.in, zShare, FileFactory, HideMyAss, Badongo, MediaFire and UploadBox.

Download online videos with Mux.am

If you want to download online videos from sites such as YouTube, Metacafe, Break.com, etc. but don't want to install any additional software, try downloading it via Mux.

Mux is a site where you can convert and download any online videos right there and then. Simply enter the URL of your video (you can also upload) and choose a format you want it to be converted to. You can even choose the H.264 or the iPod format.

After selecting your video format, converting takes a few minutes depending on the length of the video. You can choose to wait or have Mux e-mail you the download link when it's done.

Where to download full music albums

I've been filling up my brand new iPod Touch with MP3's and I'm careful that the songs within the same album have the same bit rate and quality. So this means I have to avoid downloading songs within the same album from different sources.

Good thing I found this site where I can download full music albums for free. I don't know if you're already familiar with Full-albums.net but I was able to get my Aerosmith (Devils Got a New Disguise The Very Best of Aerosmith) album from this place.

The site can be a bit tricky to navigate but make sure you click the FREE links. They will point you to file storage sites such as Rapidshare for your download link.

Keep note of the password coz some of the zipped files are password protected. And don't forget to do a virus scan. You never know what you can get from pirated music.

Download FREE MP3's easily from BeeMP3

Ever since EvilShare.com requires users to sign up just to download mp3's hosted on their site, I tried looking for other mp3 download sites that's easy to use. Good thing there's BeeMP3.

BeeMP3 is a free MP3 download site that I think is much better than EvilShare. You can search by song, artist or album and they have a huge list of mp3's. I was even able to download the song from the Converse commercial (My Drive Thru by Santogold) which is not that popular. Check the site out!

Saw this site from BerryBlog a few months ago and I decided to post it here for my reference. Enjoy your downloads!
