Buffalo’s DriveStation USB 3.0 Hard Drive is lightning fast

Buffalo just released the first ever USB 3.0 powered external hard drive in the market. The Xbox inspired DriveStation HD-HXU3 delivers transfer rates up to 625MB per second. That’s slightly more than 1 DivX movie file per second.buffalousb30

Now the big question is, how many computers at this time supports USB 3.0? Hmmm. The DriveStation is backwards compatible to USB 2.0 ports but what’s the point of getting one now?

Buffalo thought of that and has also released a two-port USB 3.0 PCI Express Interface Card that allows you to use two of your USB 2.0 ports and turn it into a USB 3.0.

Also included with the DriveStation is Memeo’s award-winning backup package. The DriveStation is now available with prices of $199.99 for 1TB (HD-HX1.0TU3), $249.99 for 1.5TB (HD-HX1.5TU3) and $399.99 for 2.0TB (HD-HX2.0TU3).

Sounds neat huh? But I’ll wait till 3.0 becomes more mainstream or when hard drives are more capable and resilient when spinning at those speeds.
