Nonito Donaire overpowers Manuel Vargas in three rounds

WBA superflyweight champion Nonito Donaire successfully defended his title against Mexico’s Manuel Vargas after knocking him out in three rounds at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas.

Donaire was patient with his game always setting up Vargas forcing him into making a mistake. At the 1:33 minute into the 3rd round, Donaire caught Vargas with a vicious left uppercut that knocked him out.

It feels like an exhibition match with Vargas a late replacement to Donaire’s original challenger, Gerson Guerrero who was out with a detached retina in his right eye. Vargas moved up in weight for this fight and was no match for Donaire who was very quick and comfortable in his weight.

With this win, Donaire improved to 23-1 (15 KO) and is in line to fight with Vic Darchinyan later this year for the WBC superflyweight title.
