How to bring back Task Manager

There are some virus or trojan nowadays that disables your Task Manager so that you won't be able to view suspect processes or end the process of the virus.

To bring back your Task Manager, simply follow these steps:

  1. Go to Start > Run
  2. Type gpedit.msc
  3. Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > System
  4. Click Ctrl+Alt+Del Options
  5. Double-click Remove Task Manager and set it to Disabled
  6. Click Ok
  7. Restart your machine
That's all there is to it.

If your Windows doesn't have gpedit.msc (like Windows XP Home), you have to tweak your registry instead.
  1. Go to Start > Run
  2. Type regedit
  3. Click HKEY_CURRENT_USER
  4. Go to Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
  5. Click DisableTaskMgr
  6. Set the Value to 0 to Enable the Task Manager
Tweaking the registry is risky for inexperienced users so if you're not sure, have someone else do it instead.
